About the role
Loancrate is an advanced Loan Origination System designed to streamline the mortgage loan process — AI-powered document management, automated task lists, and configurable business rules. Remote-first team of 80, founded 2020, $44M raised, and has enabled customers to power over $85 billion in new home loans.
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to own the health, output, and trajectory of an engineering pod of ~6–8 engineers. You'll be a hands-on leader who still codes 10–20% of your time — shipping 1–2 PRs per week to stay close to the work — while managing people with care and directness, and partnering closely with Product and Technical Leads to deliver high-impact work in a complex, high-stakes domain.
Remote, US-based. Not open to any visas — US citizens or Green Card holders only.
What you will own
- Manage a pod of ~6–8 engineers — running 1:1s, giving continuous feedback, and handling hiring, firing, PIPs, and career growth
- Own your pod's execution cadence: planning, retros, delivery health, and surfacing risk early
- Continue to code ~10–20% of your time — shipping 1–2 PRs per week to stay close to the work
- Partner with Product and Technical Leads on prioritization and architecture decisions
- Onboard engineers effectively with sharp documentation and clear ownership boundaries
