Staff Full-Stack Engineer, Core Application

Albert Invent — applied AI for materials science R&D · ~200 employees · $55M raised (Series B)

Hybrid — San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland office)Full-time · Hybrid$240K – $275K USD base

About the role

Albert Invent builds a chemistry-native platform that accelerates R&D for materials and chemical companies. Scientists in 30+ countries use it every day, with AI trained like a chemist, to bring better products to market faster. Founded in 2021, it has about 200 employees and has raised $55M.

This role builds the AI-native application layer at the center of that platform. Albert is merging its legacy system of record with its agentic AI system so that humans and AI work together in the same interface. They want an AI-native builder who owns the full stack, from the data model and backend APIs to the frontend and user experience, and who doesn't want to be limited to frontend or backend work. If you love science, like owning outcomes and want to build products that very demanding users rely on, this is the seat.

Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a required half-day on-site at the Oakland office during the interview process.

What you will own

  • Build the next generation of Albert's core application end to end (data model, TypeScript/NestJS backend, React frontend), so that both the AI and the user can work in it
  • Make every UI element agent-operable: dynamic views that agents can fill in, add recommendations to and walk scientists through, asking for input only when needed
  • Connect the system-of-record product (formulation, synthesis, master data management, admin and the new Process Dev vertical) with the agentic AI layer in a GxP environment
  • Design scalable, enterprise-grade systems with permission-based access control, zero-downtime scaling and migrations with no data loss across DynamoDB, Databricks and Python Flask services
  • Own features from spec to iteration with product, design and customers, and set the standard for AI-driven development practices on the team

Requirements

Must haveExperience at S/A-tier companies (for example Harvey, Linear, Ramp, Glean, Perplexity or Lightfield)
Must haveExperience building AI products in production (streaming, agentic systems, evals or retrieval)
Must have6–10 years of experience as a full-stack engineer
Must haveExperience owning end-to-end product delivery: specs, architecture, delivery and iteration
Must haveFull-stack development across React, TypeScript and Python (Node.js, NestJS or Flask)
Nice to haveA degree from a top school
Nice to haveExperience with agentic UI generation (dynamic interfaces composed by agents)
Not a fitA pure frontend or pure backend background with no full-stack ownership
Not a fitA pure ticket-execution background with no autonomous product ownership

We interview honestly against this list — if you meet most of the “Must have” rows, apply.
